Educart organized a national CPD Webinar on Understanding CBSE Marking Scheme that brought together teachers from different subjects and grade levels. The session was led by Dr. Tulsi Kumari, a respected Life Coach and Career Counselor, with Mr. Nishant Lakra moderating the discussion. The webinar focused on helping teachers understand how CBSE marking actually works so they can guide their students better.
Dr. Kumari started by explaining the philosophy behind CBSE's question patterns. She said that CBSE doesn't just randomly create questions, there's a clear logic and purpose behind each question type. Modern CBSE exams focus on competency based questions that test whether students can apply what they learned, analyze information, and solve problems, not just repeat memorized answers. Dr. Kumari also talked about common challenges students face, like not understanding what the question is asking, not planning their answers properly, and not knowing how marking works, which makes them lose marks even when they know the content.
A major part of the webinar focused on answer presentation. Dr. Kumari explained best practices for writing answers, using correct formats, including necessary diagrams, staying within word limits, and structuring answers clearly. She highlighted common student errors that teachers need to watch for, like overwriting which wastes time, using incorrect formats that lose marks, forgetting diagrams in science answers, and exceeding word limits which shows poor planning. Teachers should guide students step by step, show them what good answers look like, promote real understanding instead of rote learning, and encourage peer learning where students check each other's work. Teachers found the practical tips on evaluating answers and supporting students extremely helpful. The webinar successfully showed teachers how to use the marking scheme as a strategic tool to improve student performance and reduce exam stress, reinforcing that teachers are facilitators who help students not just know the content but express it effectively on paper.
