While the NTA has not yet released the official NEET 2026 notification, May 3, 2026, is being cited as the tentative exam date by various sources in the education sector. This follows the traditional pattern of conducting NEET on the first Sunday of May.

The official information bulletin containing confirmed dates and detailed guidelines is expected to be released closer to the exam, as has been the practice in previous years.

Important Dates to Track for NEET 2026

  • NEET 2026 Exam Date: May 3, 2026 (tentative)
  • Admit Card Release: Expected in April 2026
  • Answer Key Release: Post-exam
  • Result Declaration: Expected by end of May 2026

Exam Pattern Clarity: 180 Questions Confirmed!

One aspect that appears settled is the exam pattern for NEET 2026. Following last year's changes, the examination will continue with:

  • 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions (reduced from the earlier 200)
  • 3-hour duration (180 minutes)
  • No optional questions - elimination of Section B
  • Offline pen-and-paper mode using OMR sheets
  • Subject distribution: Physics (45), Chemistry (45), Biology (90 questions)

The marking scheme remains consistent: +4 marks for correct answers, -1 for incorrect responses, with no marks for unattempted questions.

NEET 2026 Syllabus Remains Unchanged?

The NEET 2026 syllabus has not been officially announced yet. Students are currently advised to follow the NEET 2025 syllabus, which remained unchanged from 2024.

The syllabus continues to be based on Class 11 and 12 NCERT textbooks covering:

  • Physics and Chemistry from both classes
  • Biology (Botany and Zoology) from both classes

All topics are aligned with the standard NCERT curriculum that has been the foundation for NEET preparation.

NEET Eligibility Criteria Remains Consistent?

The eligibility requirements for NEET 2026 are expected to follow established norms:

Age Requirements:

  • Candidates must be at least 17 years old by December 31, 2026
  • No upper age limit as per Supreme Court orders

Educational Qualifications:

  • Must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English
  • Minimum marks required: General category (50%), OBC/SC/ST (40%), PwD (45%)

Other Criteria:

  • No limit on number of attempts
  • Candidates appearing for qualifying exams in 2025 are also eligible
  • Open to Indian nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals
