2. Redraw the circuit of Question 1, putting in an ammeter to measure the current through the resistors and a voltmeter to measure the potential difference across the 12 W resistor. What would be the readings in the ammeter and the voltmeter?

Redraw the circuit of Question 1, putting in an ammeter to measure the current through the resistors and a voltmeter to measure the potential difference across the 12 W resistor. What would be the readings in the ammeter and the voltmeter?

Answer:

Resistance of circuit,

= R1 + R2 + R3

= 5 + 8 + 12

= 25 W

Using Ohm’s law

I = V/R

I = (2X3)/25

I = 6/25

I = 0.24 Ω

The potential difference between 12 Ω resistor is

V = IR

V = 0.24 × 12

V = 2.88 V

The reading of the ammeter is 0.24 A and the voltmeter is 2.88 V.
