What is Notice Writing?

You might have heard the term “NOTICE” or might have seen it printed somewhere, but what is the meaning of “NOTICE” and how is it different from other writing pieces like letters and articles?

A “notice” comes under the category of written communication intending to deliver an important announcement, news, or information to the target audience in a structured and clear manner. Notices are written in a precise manner, unlike letters and articles.

“Notice Writing” is an effective practical skill to initiate communication with target audiences in different environments like schools, offices, government agencies, residential areas, and many more. It does help with audience awareness and transparent communication.

For example, during academic years, students receive notices informing them about upcoming holidays or cultural events. Now that you all know what notices and notice writing are, it’s time to introduce you all to the “Format/Structure of Notice.”

Structure of Notice

A notice writing format is as mentioned below.

TITLE

  • Name of the Organisation or Institution: This will include the organisation or institution’s name and who is the issuing authority of the notice.

  • Date: It includes the date on which the notice is issued.

CONTENT

  • Heading: Just like an email or a letter’s subject, the heading in a notice is the subject itself. It includes a subject that will give the reader an idea of what this notice is about.
  • Body: The main part that covers the information or announcement in a precise manner. The writer had to summarise the entire information in a few words.
  • Signature and Designation: To let the readers know about the issuer of the notice, this includes the name of the issuer along with their designation (in capitals).
