Question:
A train starting from a railway station and moving with uniform acceleration attains a speed of 40 km h–1 in 10 minutes. Find its acceleration.
Answer:
Time t = 10 minutes
t = 10 x 60
t = 600 sec
Initial velocity = u = 0 ms−1
Final velocity = v = 40 km h−1
Final velocity = v = (40 x 1000)/3600
Final velocity = v = 11.1 ms−1
Acceleration a = (v-u)/t
Acceleration a = (11.1 - 0)/600
Acceleration a = 0.0185 ms−2
