CBSE is always involved in preparing and bringing improved and more efficient resources for teachers and students. This time, they have introduced Art-integrated Education in the system to impart knowledge to students in a new, innovative way.

On March 24, 2021, Hon'ble Minister of Education announced the release of 100+ comic books for students of Class 3 to 12. These comics are created by teachers of CBSE affiliated schools, curated by NCERT, and made available on the Diksha platform.

We, at Educart, did thorough analysis on these comics and here, we have provided you our observations on CBSE Class 12 Physics Comic Books. You will be able to learn if these comic books are actually helpful in learning the concepts of the chapters clearly or not.

Advantages

• Engaged Learning: Even though these comics (often termed as Graphic Novels) are poorly designed, students may find the overall presentation fun and imaginative to read. They will be able to visualise the concepts of the topic or chapter.
• Real Life Situations: The storyline of this comic presents some important topics of a chapter and helps the students connect the same with real life experiences, eventually allowing them to understand the purpose of the story and its connection to the learning outcomes of the chapter/ topic.
• Practice Questions and Summary: In between the story, there are some exercises to test the students’ knowledge and the comic ends with a Glossary and Summary to sum up the whole book in a clearer way.

Shortfalls

• Distractive: Even though these books are for supplement learning only some students can get distracted and spend hours reading all these mini books. And yet, they may not gain any better understanding of the provided topics than what NCERT textbook has to offer.‍
• Insignificant Questions: The questions in the intext exercises are not very useful for the students and they are not as per the latest CBSE Board exam pattern. So, questions like True/ False and Match the Following will not help prepare the students for A/R questions or other new types of questions as per CBSE guidelines.‍
• Not Enough Chapters: So far, the teachers and students only have Class 12 Physics Chapter 12 according to the NCERT textbook, which is simply not enough. This resource may be fun but it is not sufficient to add value to the students’ study material. This also created inconsistency in the teaching methods, keeping the teachers from adopting comic books as a teaching resource.
