Latest: ICSE Class 10 Biology Syllabus 2024-25

CISCE, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations revised its Biology Class 10 ICSE Syllabus 2025 along with all other subjects for the year 2024-2025. For this academic session, there have been almost no modifications to the ICSE Class 10 Biology Syllabus. Some topics have been added and some have been slightly modified. This modification was done in the academic session 2023-24 and the same modified syllabus will continue for the year 2024-25.

Students who are enrolled for the academic session of 2024-2025  can download the syllabus ICSE Class 10 Biology Syllabus 2024-25 PDF for the session 2024-25.

The understanding that students have of the scientific process, paradigm shifts, and achievements of eminent scientists in biology is improved by studying the  ICSE Class 10 History Syllabus history of genetics, medicine, and evolutionary theory.

Practical Work
TOTAL (100 Marks)

Biology Class 10 ICSE Syllabus 2025

CISCE has designed the Biology syllabus to make students learn and understand the importance of plants and animals for the economy, how sustainability and environmental adaptations are connected, and the mutual reliance between plants and animals. This knowledge will help them grasp the value of life and its impact on human well-being. They'll understand the capabilities and boundaries of biological and economic activities for improving quality of life. Through observation, experimentation, and accurate analysis, they'll develop skills to analyze, hypothesize, and draw conclusions effectively.

Total Marks: 100 (Theory Paper + Internal Assessment)

Theory Paper: 80 Marks

Time: 2 Hours

Internal Assessment: 20 Marks

The theory paper will be divided into two sections, Section I (40 marks) and Section II (40 marks). Section I (compulsory) will contain short answer questions. Section II will consist of six questions out of which candidates will be required to answer any four-question.

ICSE Biology Syllabus Class 10 Syllabus: Internal Assessment

The Internal assessment of practical work is created to test the ability of the candidates to make a correct observation from specimens of animals and plants. The details of the internal assessment are provided below as it is:

(i) Observation of permanent slides of stages of mitosis.

(ii) Experiments demonstrating:

  • Diffusion: using potassium permanganate in water.
  • Osmosis: Thistle Funnel experiment and potato osmoscope.
  • Absorption: using a small herbaceous plant.

(iii) Experiments on Transpiration:

  • Demonstration of the process using a Bell Jar.
  • Demonstration of unequal transpiration in a dorsiventral leaf using cobalt chloride paper.
  • Demonstration of uptake of water and the rate of transpiration using Ganong’s potometer.

(iv) Experiments on Photosynthesis:

  • To show the necessity of light, carbon dioxide, and chlorophyll for photosynthesis.
  • To show the release of O2 during photosynthesis using hydrilla/elodea.

(i) Identification of the structures of the urinary system, heart, and kidney (internal structure) and

brain (external view) through models and charts

(ii) The identification of different types of blood cells under a microscope.

(iii)Identification of the internal structure of the Ear and Eye (Through models and charts).

(iv) Identification and location of selected endocrine glands: Adrenal, Pancreas, Thyroid, and Pituitary glands with the help of a model or chart.

Scoring a good score in Biology is pretty easy. Follow the syllabus thoroughly and create a study plan. Cover all the syllabus within the specified time frame and also solve the previous year's questions.
