What is Letter of Complaint?

This type of formal letter is written to address any misdemeanours, unfairness, dissatisfaction, or unethical behaviour of any staff, product, service, or any other resource. The complaint can also be against an official accepting bribes, potholes on roads, system flaws, and insufficient medical care at the hospital. The complaint letter can be sent to the right department to bring their attention to the concern.

Writing a complaint letter can be a medium for citizens to raise their voices against violations and injustice. CBSE has included the complaint type in Class 10 and 12 Letter Writing to help them learn the format and use it at the right time.

Subject: Complaint regarding colour TV.

Sir/Madam,

I wish to draw your kind attention towards the purchase of a coloured B.P.L. TV from your shop via cash memo no. 518 dated December 30th, 20XX. It worked very well for a few months, but now it has started giving me a lot of problems. Its display is unclear, and there is a black spot that appears on the right-hand side corner. Also, the TV takes more than the usual time to switch off and on and does so with a constant ‘whiz’ sound.

Before purchasing, you pleaded its durability, utility, and stability to be trustworthy, but it seems it was only a bargain. You also provided me with a guarantee card in case of any issues. So, I request that you replace the television set as soon as possible, as it is under the stipulated guarantee period.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Divyansh/Divyanshi

Subject: Complaint regarding defective 3G mobile.

Sir/Madam,

On February 5, 20XX, I bought a Nokia 6610 mobile phone from your showroom via voucher number A-1510.

Unfortunately, the phone did not perform well because it was defective. I am disappointed because the display screen of the set has crashed and your product has dozed off into a permanent switch-off mode.

To resolve the problem, I would appreciate it if your company would pick up the set for free, correct the defects if possible, or replace the set as per the purchase terms. Enclosed herewith are the details of my cash memo, item code, set and warranty details.

Looking forward to an early redressal I will wait until two weeks before seeking help from a consumer protection agency. Please contact me at the above-mentioned address. Yours sincerely

Amit Chauhan
