CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Exam 2026: Registration, Date Sheet, Fees, Eligibility & Result

The CBSE has officially started with the online submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) for supplementary exams for Class 12, 2026. The registration process started on 30 June 2026 and will remain open until 8 July 2026 through the Pariksha Sangam Portal.

The latest CBSE circular for the same applies to regular students affiliated with CBSE schools. The circular explains the eligibility criteria, important dates, fee details, subjects permitted, and the responsibilities of schools during the LOC submission process. For private students, a separate guideline has been issued.

<red>August 12<red> 

On 12 August, the CBSE officially declared the Class 12 Supplementary Examination Result 2026 and released an official notice informing the same. Students who appear for the supplementary examination can now check their result through the DigiLocker Results Portal. 

The supplementary examination for Class 12 for 2026 was conducted for three major categories of students:

  • Compartment Candidates: Students who could not secure the qualifying marks in one of the five mandatory subjects.
  • Candidates with Six Subjects: Students who had passed by replacing a main subject with an additional subject but appeared again in the main subject in which they had not secured the qualifying marks.
  • Improvement Candidates: Students who had already passed Class 12 but appeared again to improve their performance in one subject.

In the official notice, CBSE has also released important statistics for the Class 12 Supplementary Exam 2026.

One of the major highlights of this year's result is the improvement in the Compartment category pass percentage. It increased from 38.36% in 2025 to 53.08% in 2026, showing a rise of 14.72 percentage points. 

How Will Students Receive Their Results and Marksheets?

CBSE clarified the process for accessing results and academic documents after the declaration of the result of supplementary exam. 

  • For Regular Students: School-wise results will be communicated to schools through their registered email addresses. Schools can also access students' digital academic documents through the repository using the credentials already provided by CBSE. The printed Marksheet-cum-Passing Certificate of regular candidates, including students studying in CBSE-affiliated schools abroad, will be supplied through their respective schools. 
  • For Students Studying Abroad: Students studying in CBSE-affiliated schools outside India can access their results and digital academic documents through DigiLocker
  • For Private Candidates: Private candidates will also receive their digital academic documents through DigiLocker. Printed documents will be sent to their registered addresses. Private candidates falling under the Delhi East and Delhi West Regional Offices, may collect their printed marksheet from the exam centre where they appeared. 

CBSE Post-result Services

CBSE has stated that details regarding post-result facilities will be announced in a separate official circular.  Students are advised to keep checking official CBSE updates for the latest information on the post-result services.

CBSE Releases Guidelines for Conducting Practical Exam with Supplementary Exams 2026

On 22nd July 2026, CBSE released further guidelines for conducting Practical Exams for students appearing in Class 12 Supplementary Examination 2026. 

This update follows the supplementary exam date sheet and ensures that students having any practical component pending can complete the same within the cycle of supplementary exam. As per the circular, practical exams will be held from 29 July to 4 August 2026. 

In the circular, the board clarified:

  • Students placed in the Repeat in Practical (RP - repeating practical) category need to appear only for the practical examination, as their previous theory marks will be carried forward. 
  • Students in the Repeat in Theory and Practical Both (RB - repeating both) category must appear for both theory and practical examinations.

Practical exams will be conducted at the respective schools for regular candidates and at the allotted examination center for the private candidates. If a centre does not have the required laboratory facilities, CBSE will arrange a nearby centre. 

Also, CBSE has instructed students to contact their school or examination centre latest by 27 July, 2026 with their admit card and mark sheet to get the schedule for their practical examination.

Schools have also been given instructions to upload the practical marks on the CBSE portal on the very same day the examination is conducted.

CBSE Releases Class 12 Supplementary Exam Date Sheet 2026

For Class 12 supplementary exams, CBSE has released the datesheet on the official website on  17th July, 2026. As per the notice released, the supplementary examination for all listed subjects will be conducted on 28th July, 2026.

Important Instructions Issued by CBSE for the Candidates Appearing 

With the release of the datesheet, CBSE has also issued important instructions for the students appearing in the supplementary examination: 

  • Candidates must strictly follow all instructions issued by CBSE.
  • Mobile phones, smart watches, calculators and all communication devices are strictly prohibited inside the examination centre.
  • Students must maintain discipline throughout the examination.
  • The duration of each examination will be as mentioned in the date sheet and admit card.
  • An additional 15 minutes will be provided before the examination for reading the question paper.
  • Students should regularly visit the CBSE website for any latest updates regarding the examination.

The dates for Class 12 Supplementary exam have been extended as  per the new circular released on 7th July, 2026. The below lists the dates for Class 12 supplementary exam which are important to be remembered:

Who Can Apply For Class 12 Supplementary Exam 2026?

The circular clarifies who all can apply for the CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Exam. The following categories of students are eligible to apply: 

Students with compartment in one subject

Students who appeared for the Class 12 Board Examination for the first time in 2025-26 and their result declared compartment in one subject, can appear for the supplementary examination in that particular subject. 

Students with compartment in two subjects

Students who got their result declared as compartment in two subjects can appear for the supplementary examination for only one of those two subjects. 

Third-chance compartment candidates

Students appearing for their third compartment attempt (who first appeared in the Board Examination 2025) must apply as private candidates under the separate CBSE notice issued for private candidates.

Also, students declared compartment in 2024 who could not clear it in their first two chances can apply for third and final chance as private candidates. 

Consolidated marksheet will be released for those students only whose result for Class 12 was declared compartment in Board’s Examinations 2026 and who will be declared pass in the supplementary ones. 

Students seeking improvement of performance 

Students whose result have declared passed for Class 12 examination 2026, but wish to improve their marks can apply under the improvement of performance category. 

Improvement is permitted:

  • In only one subject
  • Only in a subject that the student had appeared for in the Main Examination
  • Only once under the Improvement of Performance scheme

Compartment v/s Improvement: What’s the Difference? 

There is a lot of confusion among the students between compartment examination and improvement of performance examination. Here’s a simple comparison:

Important Instructions for Schools Regarding CBSE Supplementary Exam 

CBSE has directed all affiliated schools to: 

  • Inform every eligible student about the Supplementary Examination
  • Upload the names of all eligible students through the online LOC
  • Complete the registration within the prescribed schedule
  • Ensure eligible students do not miss the registration deadline

The board has also clearly asked the schools to upload the names of eligible students even if the  students have not approached the school for registration. Also, CBSE has mentioned that  if a  student’s name is not submitted in the online LOC, the  students will not be allowed to sit for the Class 12 Supplementary Exam 2026. 

Fee Structure and Payment Guidelines for Class 12 Supplementary Exam 

Here is the fee structure and payment guidelines for Class  12 supplementary examination.

Note: Visually impaired students are exempt from paying the examination fee. 

Important Payment Guidelines:

  • Examination fees can be paid only through Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking or UPI
  • No challan payment facility is available
  • The examination fee is calculated based on the finalized List of Candidates (LOC)
  • Once the LOC has been confirmed and the fee has been paid, no online or offline corrections will be permitted

What Students Should Do Now? 

Students who have gotten their results being declared as compartment or are planning to appear for the improvement of performance examination should immediately contact their schools and confirm their names in the online LOC. 

It is not advised to wait till the final day for submission of name in the LOC or free payment as the last date is 8 July, 2026. If a student’s name is not uploaded before the deadline, they will not be able to sit in the Class 12 Supplementary Examination 2026.
