Why does the Election Commission have so many powers? Is this good for democracy?
Answer:
In our country elections are conducted by the Election Commission (EC). It enjoys the same kind of independence that the judiciary enjoys. The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) is appointed by the President of India. It takes decisions on every aspect of elections from the announcement of elections to the declaration of results.This is good for democracy because only a powerful and independent Election commission can ensure free and fair elections.
