What are adrenal gland disorders?

Question:

What are adrenal gland disorders?

Answer:

Adrenal gland disorders are problems that happen when the glands make either too much or too little hormone. Since these hormones control things like stress response, blood pressure, and metabolism, even small changes can cause health issues.

Main Adrenal Disorders

1. Addison’s Disease

  • Happens when the adrenal glands don’t make enough cortisol and aldosterone.
  • Signs: weakness, low blood pressure, weight loss, skin darkening.

2. Cushing’s Syndrome

  • Caused by too much cortisol in the body.
  • Signs: weight gain (especially face & belly), round “moon face,” weak muscles, thin skin.

3. Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH)

  •  A genetic problem that affects normal hormone production.
  • Signs: abnormal growth, hormone imbalance, early puberty in some cases.

4. Pheochromocytoma

  • A tumor in the adrenal medulla that makes extra adrenaline.
  • Signs: high blood pressure, fast heartbeat, sweating, anxiety.
