Some Important Qs from Class 10 Mathematics NCERT
With the latest CBSE Class 10 Mathematics sample papers introducing a higher number of competency-based questions, regular and focused question practice has become more important than ever.
We have carefully selected a few important NCERT questions that cover the entire Class 10 Maths syllabus for the 2026-27 session and are most likely to appear in the board exams.
Chapter 1: Real Numbers
1. Explain why 7 × 11 × 13 + 13 and 7 × 6 × 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 + 5 are composite numbers.
Ans. (i) Given, 7 × 11 × 13 + 13
= 13 × (7 × 11 + 1)
= 13 × (77 + 1)
= 13 × 78
= 13 × 13 × 3 × 2
It means factors of given expression are 2, 3 and 13 respectively. Hence, it is composite
number.
(ii) 7 × 6 × 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 + 5
= 5(7 × 6 × 4 × 3 × 2 + 1)
= 5 × (1008 + 1)
= 5 × 1009
Factors of the given expression are 5 and 1009. Hence, it is a composite number.
Chapter 3: Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables
2. Solve 2x + 3y = 11 and 2x – 4y = – 24 and hence find the value of ‘m’ for which y = mx + 3.
Ans. Given, 2x + 3y = 11 ...(i)
2x – 4y = – 24 ...(ii)
From eqn. (ii) 2x = 4y – 24
x = 2y – 12 ...(iii)
Putting the value of x from eqn. (iii) in eqn. (i),
2(2y – 12) + 3y = 11
4y – 24 + 3y = 11
7y = 11 + 24 = 35
y = 35/7 = 5
Putting the value of y in eqn. (iii),
x = 2 (5) – 12
= 10 – 12
x = – 2
So, x = – 2, y = 5
Now, putting the value of x and y in y = mx + 3 5 …..= m(– 2) + 3
m = 2/-2 = -1
∴ m = – 1
Chapter 4: Quadratic Equations
3. Find two consecutive positive integers, sum of whose squares is 365.
Ans. Let x and x + 1 be two consecutive positive integers.
Then A.T.Q.,x2+ (x + 1)2 = 365
x2+ x2+ 2x + 1 = 365 [∵ (a + b)2= a2+ 2ab + b2]
2x2+ 2x – 364 = 0
2(x2+ x – 182) = 0
x2+ x – 182 = 0
x2+(14 - 13)x - 182 = 0
x2+ 14x – 13x – 182 = 0
x(x + 14) – 13(x + 14) = 0
(x + 14)(x – 13) = 0
If x + 14 = 0 ⇒ x = – 14
and x – 13 = 0 ⇒ x = 13
∵ x is a positive integer.
⇒ x = – 14 is invalid.
So, x = 13 and x + 1 = 13 + 1 = 14
Hence, two consecutive positive integers are 13 and 14.
Chapter 5: Arithmetic Progressions
4. For the following APs, write First term and the common difference :
(i) 3, 1, – 1, – 3, ...
(ii) – 5, – 1, 3, 7, ...
(iii) 1/3, 5/3, 9/3, 13/3….
(iv) 0.6, 1.7, 2.8, 3.9, …
Ans. (i) Given AP : 3, 1, – 1, – 3 …
First term (a) = 3
Common difference (d) = 1 – 3 = – 2
(ii) Given AP : – 5, – 1, 3, 7 ...
First term (a) = – 5
Common difference (d) = a2 – a1 = –1 – (– 5)
= – 1 + 5 = 4
(iii) Given AP : 1/3, 5/3, 9/3,13/3…
First term (a) = 1/3
Common difference (d) = a2 – a1 = 5/3-1/3 = 4/3
(iv) Given AP : 0.6, 1.7, 2.8, 3.9 ....
First term (a) = 0.6
Common difference (d) = a2 – a1 = 1.7 – 0.6
= 1.1
Chapter 8: Introduction to Trigonometry
5. If ∠A and ∠B are acute angles such that cos A = cos B, then show that ∠A = ∠B.
Ans. Given, in △ABC,
cos A = cos B
∴ AC/AB = BC/AB\
⇒ AC = BC
∴ ∠B = ∠A [Angles opposite to equal sides of a triangle are equals.]
