Why did various classes and groups of Indians participate in the Civil Disobedience Movement?

Answer:

Due to their individual, constrained motivations, the various classes and groups of Indians took part in the Civil Disobedience Movement.

Businessmen understood the term "swaraj" to refer to a period when trade and industry would flourish free from colonial restraints.
Similarly to rich peasant classes, swaraj was a struggle against high land revenue.

Women took swaraj as the attainment of elevated status and equality with men in Indian society.

Poor peasants looked forward to swaraj as the day they would possess their own land and no longer have to pay rent or beg.

Working class dreamed of high wages and excellent working conditions. Hence, swaraj was different for different classes and groups of Indians.
