4. What are the limitations of Rutherford’s model of the atom ?

Question:

What are the limitations of Rutherford’s model of the atom ?

Answer:

The major drawback of Rutherford’s atomic model was that it did not reveal the stability of the atom. When a charged particle is accelerated, energy is generated from it. The electronic energy would be reduced by this emission of radiation. These will be a contraction of the size of it’s orbit. After a short time electron would callide with the nucleus. Rutherford was unable to explain. Why such an effect occurs.
