The smell of hot sizzling foods reaches your several metres away, but to get the smell from cold, food, you have to go to close.
We know that particles of matter are always in motion. The motion of particles increases when temperature is increased. The particles of hot sizzling food get heat as result the particles move very fast and reach us diffusing with air particles. The motion of particles of cold food is not so fast, therefore they don’t reach us diffusing with air particles. Thus to get the smell from cold food we have to go to close.
