How is respiration regulated?

Answer:

 Respiration is controlled by the respiratory centres in the medulla oblongata and pons of the brain.

  • Medulla sets the basic rhythm of breathing.
  • Chemoreceptors sense CO₂ levels in blood – if CO₂ rises, breathing rate increases.

So, CO₂ concentration is the main regulator.
