What is The Best Time of The Day to Study?
Often, we struggle with finding the best time of the day when we can be more productive. Although this depends on person to person, studies have revealed a specified period of the day when a person can be at his peak mental performance.
Psychological research shows that the most productive time of the day to study is two hours right before you wake up, late afternoon after siesta, and a few hours before you go to bed.
Morning (7 AM - 10 AM): During this time, the brain's analytical and problem-solving abilities are at their peak as the prefrontal cortex is most active and high levels of cortisol, a hormone associated with alertness and concentration, are released. Therefore, this time should be utilised to learn new or complicated subjects or skills.
Afternoon (4 PM - 6 PM): Late afternoon and early evening are other times of the day when one can study as at this time the cognitive performance is at its peak due to a combination of factors such as an increase in the temperature of the body and the alertness level. This time should be best utilised for tasks that require focus and critical thinking.
Night (7 PM-10 PM): This period of the day is better for studying as it reduces the distractions and interference encountered during the day. Studies show that information learned before sleep is more likely to be retained longer, as sleep helps improve memory retention.
