Saturated hydrocarbon- When butter is heated and some bromine water is added to it, its colour does not fade. This shows that butter is a saturated compound. Unsaturated hydrocarbon- When some bromine water is added to edible oil, after a short time the colour of the bromine water becomes colourless. This suggests that the edible oil is an unsaturated compound.
