Question:

Prove that the following rational numbers are equal:
(A) 23\frac{2}{3} and 46\frac{4}{6}
(B) 54\frac{5}{4} and 108\frac{10}{8}
(C) 35\frac{-3}{5} and 610\frac{-6}{10}
(D) 93\frac{9}{3} and 3 [Page No. 49]

Answer: Verified

(A) Given rational numbers are 23\frac{2}{3} and 46\frac{4}{6}:

2 x 6 = 12 and 3 x 4 = 12.
Since 12 = 12, they are equal.

(B) Given rational numbers are 54\frac{5}{4} and 108\frac{10}{8}:

5×8=40 and 4×10=40.5 \times 8 = 40 \text{ and } 4 \times 10 = 40.

Since, 40=4040 = 40, they are equal.

(C) Given rational numbers are 35\frac{-3}{5} and 610\frac{-6}{10}:

(3)(10)=30 and 5(6)=30. Equal.(-3)(10) = -30 \text{ and } 5(-6) = -30. \text{ Equal.}

(D) Given rational numbers are 93\frac{9}{3} and 3:

9×1=9 and 3×3=9. Equal.9 \times 1 = 9 \text{ and } 3 \times 3 = 9. \text{ Equal.}
