Question:

Convert the following rational numbers into the form of a terminating decimal or a non-terminating and repeating decimal, whichever the case may be, by the process of long division:

(A) 350\frac{3}{50}

(B) 29\frac{2}{9}

Answer: Verified

(A) 350:50=2×52\frac{3}{50}: 50 = 2 \times 5^{2} (only 2s and 5s) \rightarrow Terminates

350=6100=0.06\frac{3}{50} = \frac{6}{100} = 0.06

(B) 29:9=32\frac{2}{9}: 9 = 3^2 (contains 3) \rightarrow Repeats

29=0.2222...=0.2\frac{2}{9} = 0.2222... = 0.\overline{2}
