Question:

When 20 g of hydrogen reacts completely with 160 g of oxygen, how much water is formed according to the Law of Conservation of Mass? [Pg. No. 166]

Answer: Verified

According to the Law of Conservation of Mass, the total mass of the reactants is equal to the total mass of the products.

Mass of hydrogen = 20 g

Mass of oxygen = 160 g

Total mass of reactants = 20 g + 160 g = 180 g

Therefore, the mass of water formed = 180 g

180 g of water is formed.

The Law of Conservation of Mass states that mass is neither created nor destroyed during a chemical reaction. Hence, the total mass remains 180 g before and after the reaction.
