Question:

A source produces a sound wave of wavelength 3.44 m. If the wave travels with a speed of 344 ms⁻¹ find its time period.

Answer: Verified

Wavelength (λ) = 3.44 m

Speed of sound (v) = 344 m/s

The speed of a sound wave is related to its wavelength and frequency by the formula:

v=λ×νv=\lambda\times\nu

So, frequency is calculated as:

v=vλ=344 m/s3.44 m=100 Hzv = \frac{v}{\lambda} = \frac{344 \text{ m/s}}{3.44 \text{ m}} = 100 \text{ Hz}

Since time period and frequency are inversely related:

T=1v=1100=0.01 sT = \frac{1}{v} = \frac{1}{100} = 0.01 \text{ s}

Hence, the time period of the sound wave is 0.01 s.
