Question:

Why is an excess of CO₂ in the atmosphere considered undesirable even though it is required by plants?

Answer: Verified

Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is required by plants for photosynthesis and also helps maintain the Earth's temperature through the natural greenhouse effect. However, excess CO₂ in the atmosphere is undesirable because it strengthens the greenhouse effect and traps more heat. This leads to global warming and
climate change. Rising temperatures can melt glaciers and polar ice, disturb rainfall patterns and affect the Earth's climate balance. Therefore, although plants need CO₂, excessive amounts become harmful to the environment.
