Cities with a lot of smoke and dust often look hazy because tiny suspended particles of dust, smoke and water droplets remain dispersed in the air. These particles scatter sunlight in different directions, showing the Tyndall effect. Due to this scattering, the path of light becomes diffused instead of clear, so distant objects appear blurred and the air looks hazy. This polluted air behaves like a colloidal mixture or aerosol, where solid or liquid particles are dispersed in air.
