Question:

If we multiply a number by 52\frac{5}{2} and add 23\frac{2}{3} to the product, we get 712\frac{-7}{12}. Find the number.

Answer: Verified

Let the number be xx.

Then (52)x+23=712\left(\frac{5}{2}\right)x + \frac{2}{3} = -\frac{7}{12} (52)x=71223=712812=1512=54\left(\frac{5}{2}\right)x = -\frac{7}{12} - \frac{2}{3} = -\frac{7}{12} - \frac{8}{12} = -\frac{15}{12} = -\frac{5}{4} x=(54)×(25)=12x = \left(-\frac{5}{4}\right) \times \left(\frac{2}{5}\right) = -\frac{1}{2}
 Hence, the number is 12-\frac{1}{2}.

Hence, the number is 12\frac{-1}{2}.
