Question:

Find the perimeter of squares with sides 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 cm. What happens to the perimeters if the sides increase by 0.5 cm?                                                                                                                                                                              [Page No. 19]

Answer: Verified

The perimeter of a square of side xx is 4x4x. Substituting each side:

Side (cm) Perimeter =4x= 4x (cm)
1 4
1.5 6
2 8
2.5 10
3 12

Each time the side grows by 0.5 cm, the perimeter grows by 4×0.5=24 \times 0.5 = 2 cm.
So the perimeters form the pattern 4, 6, 8, 10, 12; a linear pattern with a constant increase of 2.
