The Earth's four main spheres—lithosphere (solid rock and soil), hydrosphere (water), atmosphere (air), and biosphere (living things) are deeply interconnected and function together in a delicate balance. A change in any one of these spheres inevitably triggers a chain reaction across the others, driven by the continuous cycling of matter and the flow of energy from the Sun and Earth's interior.
A classic illustration of this delicate balance is the water cycle: the Sun heats the atmosphere, evaporating water from oceans (hydrosphere); this water vapour condenses into clouds. When rain (hydrosphere) falls on a mountain/soil (lithosphere), it dissolves minerals and flows downhill; this water when moves erodes rock and helps shaping the landscape. The flowing water also seeps into soil, where plant roots absorb it, the underground water nourishes plants/forests (biosphere).
Transpiration from plants (biosphere) transfers water into atmosphere. Runoff water from soil (lithosphere) returns to rivers and oceans (hydrosphere), thus, completing the cycle.
The deforestation in biosphere leads to less water absorption and transpiration, as the result, the rainfall (atmosphere) is decreased, soil erosion (lithosphere) is increased, river flow (hydrosphere) is changed, illustrating how a change in one sphere can cascade through the others.
