Question:

A mobile phone is bought for ₹ 10,00010{,}000. Its value decreases by ₹ 800800 every year.

(A) Find the value of the phone after 3 years.

(B) Make a table of values for t varying from 0 to 8 years and show how the value of the phone, v, depreciates with time.

(C) Find an expression that relates v and t, and explain why it represents linear decay. [Page No. 25]

Answer: Verified

(A) Value after 3 years = 10000800(3)10000 - 800(3)

=100002400= 10000 - 2400

=7600= ₹ 7600

(B) Table of values:

tt (years)vv (₹)
010000
19200
28400
37600
46800
56000
65200
74400
83600

(C) Expression of given problem is given by

v=10000800t.v = 10000 - 800t.

It represents linear decay since vv decreases by a constant amount ₹ 800 per year.
