History & Civics Class 10 ICSE Syllabus 2025

CISCE has designed the Civics Syllabus with the aim of helping students become responsible and enlightened citizens in a secular democracy by explaining how the Indian government functions. The History Syllabus was designed for students to deepen their understanding of key historical events in India that are important for understanding the country today along with enhancing comprehension of significant historical events in India that are essential for understanding the present-day state of the country. CISCE also wants to cultivate a global historical viewpoint of students on the contributions made by diverse cultures to the collective heritage of humanity through its course curriculum. 

History & Civics Theory Paper

Total Marks: 80 

Time: 2 Hours 

This paper consists of two parts: Part I (30 marks) will contain short answer questions from the entire syllabus. Part II (50 Marks)will consist of Section A (Civics)  and Section B (History). Candidates will be required to answer two out of three questions from Section A and three out of five questions from Section B. 

ICSE Syllabus Class 10 History & Civics: Internal Assessment

Students who are in the academic session of 2024-25 have to submit any one project/assignment associated with the History & Civics Syllabus. CISCE has suggested a few topics for the project and assessment. Students can choose from the topic provided below or work on any topic they have in their mind with the permission of their subject teacher. The suggested topic by CISCE is given below as it is: 

Suggested Assignments By CISCE

  • Compare the Parliamentary and Presidential forms of Government with reference to India and the U.S.A.
  •  Conduct a mock Court and record the proceedings.
  •  Present a life sketch and contributions of any one of the following Presidents of India –Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (or any other).
  • Present a book review of any one of the following works: Dadabai Naoroji’s ‘Poverty and un-British Rule in India’, Gandhi’s ‘The Story of My Experiments with Truth’, Nehru’s ‘Discovery of India’, Bhagat Singh’s ‘Why I am an Atheist’, Vijayalakshmi Pandit’s ‘The Scope of Happiness: A Personal Memoir’, Abdul Kalam’s ‘Wings of Fire’.
  • Discuss the relevance of any one of the following films to understand the history of 20th Century Europe: The Book Thief, Schindler’s List, Escape to Victory, The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, Life is Beautiful, The Sound of Music, Gandhi (Richard Attenborough), Sardar (Ketan Mehta), Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose - The Forgotten Hero (Shyam Benegal).
  • Highlight the work and achievements of any one Nobel Laureate - Malala Yousafzai or Kailash Satyarthi.
  • Make a PowerPoint presentation on India’s Independence and Partition.
  • Make a presentation on the influence of Gandhian principles on Martin Luther King / Nelson Mandela.
  • Prepare a report on the contributions of any one of the following agencies of the United Nations – UNESCO / WHO / UNICEF / ILO / UNDP / FAO.
  • Present a case study of any recent human rights violations and redressal mechanisms available to prevent such instances in the future.

Tips To Prepare ICSE Class 10 History And Civics Syllabus

History is a very interesting subject as it teaches us about past civilizations, cultures, events, wars, etc that happened many many years ago. We learn how people were, what culture they used to follow in which region, what wars were fought and why they were fought, what strategies were used by the rulers to win the war, etc. It not only gives us an idea of the past but also teaches us what mistakes people should not make in the present.  On the other Civics teaches about how government functions in a country. The constitution, laws, elections, etc. come under the civics paper.
